About Us
Athelstan’s Army was formed by a group of volunteers which grew from an idea by Steve Cox when he was the Mayor. His idea was to help address social isolation in the elderly by befriending. A group of volunteers have worked with Steve to see his idea through.
We aim to empower the over 50’s to have the knowledge to access local resources and groups. We have developed a leaflet to help with this. We also will host a social meeting which will be held in the town hall every Friday morning from 10:00am – 12.00. We shall have guest speakers on topics of interest to the group. The meetings will be user led, light hearted and informative. Befriending will also be offered to local isolated people over the age of 50.
We need more volunteers. We ask for a commitment of one hour once a week. Volunteers will be given a two hour induction and on going support from the group leaders. If you would like to join us or would like more information about us please telephone our number and we will contact you to arrange a meeting.
